McDowell’s Leather & Lace Initiative tapped into the thrifting trends by holding a school-wide thrift store of their own. According to Retail Control Systems.com, 62% of Gen Z and millennials prefer secondhand items over new, and thrift store sales are growing faster than traditional retail. Throughout the week of April 20, the students of McDowell had the opportunity to shop from clothing donated by other students and faculty members. That weekend, MIHS even opened their doors for other members of the Millcreek community to shop from their selections. Items that were not purchased were donated to local thrift stores.
