As October has fallen over the city of Erie, many kids and teenagers are becoming excited to dress up with their friends and go trick or treating. Though various candy brands create limited edition treats for Halloween, it raises the question of which spooky treat wins over your sweet tooth. The following treats were ranked out of five ghosts for their trick or treat potential.
Ghost Toast Kit Kats are the newest limited edition chocolate bars of the season. Starting with the wrapper, the treat features bright fall colors with an adorable ghost breaking the treat in half. Although the wrapper is eye-catching, the actual chocolate bar itself is phenomenal. The treat consists of a crunchy wafer covered with an orange “cinnamon toast” flavored chocolate. The chocolate layer tastes like a very sweet white chocolate with cinnamon infused throughout it.
Reese’s Werewolf Tracks are a new Reese’s twist on the popular ice cream flavor, Moose Tracks. The peanut butter cup is surrounded by a split of milk chocolate (bottom) layer and vanilla creme (top) layer. The wrapper features a picture of the treat being grabbed by a hairy werewolf. This limited-edition Reese’s cup is really good. The vanilla creme and chocolate blend super well with the peanut butter center. The treat is not overly sweet, and no flavors stand out individually. As for the ice cream it’s named after, this treat is really like moose tracks formed into a candy bar.
Pumpkin Pie M&Ms are another new treat for the Halloween season. These M&Ms are three vivid fall colors: orange, light tan and brown. Like traditional M&Ms, the candy-coating tastes the same, but within the center of the treat, a hint of pumpkin spice appears. The wrapper is a comical spin with the orange characters looking scared. As for the M&M’s, the first bite is cinnamon filled, and as you continue to chew, the pumpkin spice flavor appears rapidly, mixing strangely with the milk chocolate. If you are a big fan of pumpkin spice, this chocolate might work best for you as the more you consume them, the better they taste.
Prices of chocolate have increased in the midst of a worldwide cocoa shortage, but there are plenty of sugary Halloween sweets like Brach’s Autumn Leaves. This autumn-themed sweet contains five different flavored leaves: caramel apple, pumpkin spice, sweet maple, salted butterscotch and spiced cider. The packaging of the leaves is Halloween themed, with a family pictured in the bottom right corner eating fall foods, as well as the color scheme being split purple and orange. Featured in the left corner of the packaging is a picket sign of the different flavors of leaves found inside. As the leaves are made out of mellowcreme, the same texture of candy corn, sweet maple fits the best for this texture. This treat should be buried with the dead after Halloween because they are not good.
